Green Garden

The garden is growing and it's so exciting.  The rains we had followed by sun has made everything just flourish.  Even the blossoms we had recently on our trees have turned into little apples and pears.  Once we have harvested the brassicas.   I'm looking forward to planting the warm weather crops.  I planted a lot of brassicas and will have to make lots of coleslaw and broccoli soup.

Drifted Seaweed

I went to the local beach with Eli's class where they helped  maintain the park by weeding planted areas and trails.  Their reward this time was having some time to just play on the beach.  It was a beautiful warm day down there.  They are learning about the Ohlone so while some were chasing girls and stealing hats others were creating thing out of natural materials.  They built a small shelters, teepees, boats, that they would then try in the water and some were trying to start fires with natural materials.  So refreshing to just be outside!

April Showers

The rain is pounding away outside. So, inside we're enjoying our  succulents from the wedding while we wait to get back out to the garden.  We're reading a new book.  Eli and I started Treasure Island.  Nothing abridged about this version.  He always wants to read another chapter.  I've been enjoying Taproot and the comfort that it is.  Comfort that there is a publication that rejoices in all the people slowing down and taking root.  Eli is packed and ready to go when that field dries out.  A new bat and batting gloves await!

Rich Colors

To get this array of colors I used onion skins, beet powder, turmeric, red cabbage, chamomile and blueberries.  I boiled each color for about fifteen minutes with some vinegar added to it.  Some we just dipped and some we double dipped.  Some were drawn on with crayons and some painted with paintbrushes.   Beautiful and rich colors.  They were hidden at Grandma and Grandpa's house where the hunt took place.   The baskets were filled.  The hunt was followed by a yummy dinner
 and desert.

An Idea

Even though Eli just got a new skateboard for his birthday he had the idea that he wanted to make his own.  He wanted to make his own but on a limited budget.  So I called down to the local skateshop and the owner said he had some extra wheels someone had brought in and Eli could have them for free.   We hurried right down, picked them out and then bought some trucks.  We headed on down to the lumberyard where that employee helped us pick out the right lumber.  Then home to practice trying the trucks on in various places.  Back to the skateshop where the owner put it all together for no fee.  Now Eli has a fat, homemade skateboard.  So cool!
